As we reach the mid stage of the school summer holidays, you might be running out of ideas on how to entertain your kids over the next 3 weeks.
Well fear not folks, it just so happens that until the 29th of August there are a host of free fishing events taking place all over the country. Designed to introduce newcomers to the sport and backed by the Angling Trust, Environment Agency and Angling Trades Association, this month long festival of fishing, has something for everybody.
what is even better is that the environment agency have waived the fishing license requirements for these specific events (only these events), which means that even if you or your friend or children don’t have a license, you can all still attend.
Kids love fishing, it’s a great outdoor activity, relatively inexpensive and as we all know, highly addictive. I’ve met many of my long term friends whilst fishing and have enjoyed days and nights fishing and socialising around the lakes and rivers of the UK.
The National Fishing Month website will have details of events near you. All you need to do is pop in your post code and it will bring up events in your area.
Make sure you read the specifics of the event carefully as some do carry a small charge but usually no more than £2-£5. Many also supply tackle and bait, so you can try out the particular branch of fishing before you invest in buying a rod and reel for your child.
